POST-OP day -- amputation update

Post-op day!  

We chose to try to have the cast taken off, stitches removed and re-casted 

IN THE OFFICE.

Yes, many times they go back to the OR but because of Elizabeth's age and that she really doesn't like the surgery prep -- we decided we'd give the office a try.

We prepped her at home for the last week --

We wanted her to know EXACTLY what was going to happen AND what was under the cast.

Again, I need to say that Dr. F's office is amazing :)  His new office -- WOW!

We went right back and Dr. F met with us immediately -- NO WAITING -- REALLY!

He gave us a few options for the cast -

AND immediately the PA went to taking it off.

They explained/showed her what was going to be done.

They went to work 

remove lots of padding

first option didn't work

the end of the cast would not just slide off

so, the whole thing had to be cut

pop off the cast

first look at Miss Stub Stub (yes, that is her nickname for it)

WOW -- it looks amazing!!!!

off to x-ray (plate looks great at the knee)

stitches OUT -- this was scary for Elizabeth

NO tears but she whimpered through them -- later she said it didn't hurt BUT she was scared.

She made this look EVERY time a stitch came out.

NO noise with it, though.

re-cast -- only a cap cast -- PURPLE this time (and it's AWESOME.)  

The idea is that the cast can slide on and off (probably NOT very easily and we won't do it much)

AND we are off

This is THE SOLACE scooter -- 100 x's better than a wheelchair.  She loves it.  Yes, it makes her independent.

Lunch at SMASHBURGER --- YUM!!!

Exhausted

All in all a great day.  She is AMAZING!  

One month = first prosthetic mold to be made -- YEAH! 

BEAUTIFUL!
